..driven by the storm..

wellwell.. :) haha :D here we are :)

I'm sitting in a Library in Fort Stockton in Texas.. a very flat and boring state, but somehow I don't have time to be bored driving, because I'm freezing my ass off!! :P

so we left the grand parents of Liz and drove that very day to the Grand Canyon.. I've seen quite a few things, but this is remarkably impressive!! (there will be a picture album filled with stunning shots of the Grand Canyon :D
we camped out outside of the Grand Canyon Area in the National Forest, where you can camp legally for free.. this is a really good thing, these "public lands for many uses". Having a bike it was really easy to get back to the campsite (just us and plenty of wildlife ;) and to the market plaza to get breakfast and supplies in the morning. We stayed 3 nights.. having a nice trip in the GC and some good hikes :)
we've seen hundreds of Ravens, dozens of Elks and mule deers and even a Coyote!! :D was totally nice to have these days (we left just in time to not get snowed in :) especially, because Liz's Grandma told her mother, that we are riding a bike (and not a car as white-lied before) and during the next phone call it became clear, that there is no way to continue together (her Mom was close to hysterical :P and because I don't want to upset her, I totally suggested, that she takes a bus from Flagstaff (especially, because I have already a ticket to the Ukraine, will stay 3 weeks with them and like to take Liz to South America in peaceful agreement with their parents.. so better not mess it all up right away ;) haha :D
so I dropped Liz in Flagstaff and she is already in Austin with her sister, while I'm taking my dragon down to meet her again (should be happen tomorrow :)
I had a beautiful ride down a Canyon to Sedona.. the trees shine in fall colors and the mountains are just incredible!! (sure you find pics on google earth of the place.. it's a energetic place and known for it).
I met a guy camping out the night and he set up a nice camp fire.. we talked and had a good time! was good to just be by my own.. gives time to reflect on the past days/weeks..
he's name is T.J. and he pointed me out some energetic points, called vortex. I went to one of them and wanted to find another one, pretty much out in the woods.. but failed to find this one. continued west.. bailing out to Cottonwood and Prescott and then back to Camp Verde and down to Globe, where I stayed for the night.
it was a very, very windy day to ride.. was kinda glad, to be alone on the bike with lighter load. I tried to loose the storm, that was founding in my back, but didn't really manage to get to more stable climatic conditions. in Globe was a sand storm going on.. there were some nice mountains to drive through after Camp Verde and in the Tonto National Park.. then it drops down and flattens out a bit. I missed Liz a lot camping in Globe.. was somewhere out of town on a public PicNic and Camping area.. couldn't do anything but staying in my tent and read a book about motorcycle poets :) ..outside it was windy, sandy and pretty chilly.
the coming morning I started very early.. it's hard to get Liz out of bed ;) and just having me delaying, it's faster to move on.. Okay.. I also have to say, that laying alone in a sleepy isn't not nearly as nice as to wake up together and to cuddle and snuggle for a moment! :D haha :D
I drove from Globe to Safford and down to the Interstate 10 Junction.. entering New Mexico.. a kinda boring State.. don't know a lot about it, because just passed it in that very day.. but it's not the most scenic state and the weather was way too bad to truly enjoy the ride of the day :-/
I ended up in El Paso (Texas) after I almost stopped at Las Cruces.. but the sky was blue again down there, so I took the extra 50 miles, that led me in strong rain and winds :P
yes.. it was a very wet day and there was no other way than to spend 45bucks to stay in Motel 6 (what I'm doing here as well), because it's so cold and wet, that it would just be a pain to stay outside.. rather have a warm shower, watch TV (to see what stupid things are running on US TV channels ;) and sleep in a warm and cozy bed. ..I'll end up watching cartoons later.. it's the most sincere thing and the propaganda isn't as offending as on other channels..
yes.. I was pretty much running away from the storm, that is coming from North, but I'm kinda 1-2 days too late, so it's not that nice to ride in these conditions.. on the other hand.. being another 2 days late would make the trip impossible (would have to wait it out), so I don't want to complain.
this morning I was riding through snowy mountains.. there was no snow on the street luckily, but I'm wearing 2 pairs of socks, 5 layers on my legs and 6 layers on my top.. the heated handlebars just prevent freezing my hands on the grips :P ..but it's about to get better tomorrow.. so I assume, that the long ride tomorrow to Austin will be more convenient :) ..380 miles will it be. will start as early as the weather allows it and see where I end up.. if I can't do it, because too tired, I stay another night somewhere, but easy and steady going, it should be doable. here the speed limit is 80 miles/hour (so 85 mph is still OK ;) that brings me a little faster where I aim to go, but also colder because of more wind and the bike takes lot more gasoline, but it's affordable with the gas prices they have here..

I'm also looking for a place where I could leave my bike and I think, I have some good options.. let's see, what it will be in the end.
unfortunately my insurance will be running in vane for 2 months.. makes a 300 USD going down the drain.. I hope I get a better offer from a different company for my next insurances and I won't make policies more than 1 month.. because all so unpredictable ;)

I think, that's it for the moment.. it's pretty harsh to ride at the moment, but soon I'll head out for some other adventures. ..too bad it's winter in the Ukraine.. couldn't Liz's parents be diplomats in South Africa? ;) I will freeze my ass off for another 2 month (so much about following the summer), but then I will head definitively for warmer places!!! :D eventually cutting out Mexico (let's see the situation and weather in January).

wishing you all the best and have a great time!!! (as I do here ;) hehe :)

hugs and kisses!

..across the States..

Wow.. it took me a long time to get to a computer and update this blog.. we were mostly emergency-organizing something or checking on weather ;)

so let me try to summarize the last two weeks.. :)

it was nasty to drive out of Seattle on a 5 lane Interstate, but made it finally to Highway 101, driving through some forests and camping out the first night on the shores of the Pacific :) we missed the sunset for driving a long time, but were glad to be on our own again and start an adventure like that. driving with our load and two people isn't that bad after all ;) just had to leave a lot of things behind, that I wouldn't want to miss on the long term.. as my guitar for example :)

we had a decent breakfast the next morning (drinking a lot of coffee here, but what can you do if they offer free refills ;) hehe :) so it was a beautiful drive down the 101, along the coast line, watching the endless sea on our side. Since I have a personal motorbike-greeter and photograph in the back, there will be more pictures online soon :) ..also pictures of my cute lady and my dready look, getting better day by day :)
there were some strange noises on the bike and I checked chain tension, finding accidently a leak of oil.. but just a very small one, so no need for quick changes. The guys from the garage were super, super nice and we talked a lot, got invited some burgers for dinner and they told us, where to camp out.. too bad, I forgot the name of the place, otherwise you could google-earth it :) we stayed on a sandy peninsula, having sea on both sides, beautiful dunes, watching the waves and playing jews-harp and overtone singing (we're getting better day by day ;)

the next day we continued down the 101 and it was another georgeous ride.. it's just fun to ride a bike through the world! :) I got a lot of hugs and massages from the back, what makes it even more enjoyable! :) ..we spent the night in a state park, on the beach, camping out illegal but for free :D it's good to have a bike.. so you can drive down small path and get off the scene for being unbothered :)

then the weather was about to change.. the tent was always soaked in the morning because of the moisture that you get by being just aside the ocean.
there was the end of this Taifun that swept over Japan and we got a lot of wind and rain.. the day was still okay, but we took a motel room for 60 bucks in Eureka, because it was about to rain and it was just too hard to camp another night outside with our stuff. So we enjoyed a hot shower and a cozy Motel room with a biiiig bed! :D

in the morning there was some blue sky, when we started, but we got hit by heavy rain just a few miles out of town and we just rode a 60 miles in total this day, before we stranded in Garberville. There are a lot of people looking for jobs to trim weed (now it's the season to do so), but because of high competition and because of it's still kinda illegal and things happen, the vibes are not that inviting. the town itself is supercool! ..small Hippie-town along the 101 ;)
we spent another 60 bucks to be dry and watched some TV (I enjoy doing that, despite all the propaganda they show in TV :-/

by getting more South and the Taifun passing, we made it the next day to San Francisco (SF), where we stayed with a friend of Liz. The vibe wasn't too bad, but we were urged to leave after 2 days, so I was happy to be out of the place again. It's too bad on the other side, because SF is a real cool place and I could have stayed for longer.. I mean, I drove over the Golden Gate Bridge (epic!! :) and we spent a day in the botanical garden and park in SF.. was also very nice!
then the next morning we figured out, that I have a flat tire in the back.. was kinda stressful to me, but what else could I do than try to get it fixed.
So I took my bike apart and it took me so long to break the beat (getting the tire of the wheel) and then the tube didn't show any holes?!?! so I hiked a long walk to get a entirely new tube (to be safe) and tried to put it in.. a guy came and helped me and when it was done and I was inflating it, there it was leaking because of unprober mounting (the wheel arms I used to put on the tire destroyed the new tube :( ..happened to me the last time..
..so I hiked again the same way to get another new tube.. this time had some other, more experienced people helping me.. mounted it, inflated it and it looked good.. so I built everything together, went to the other guys to say thank you and when I came back, it was flat again.. I could have cried!! :'(
so I got the direction of a garage and drove the bike with a flat tire back.. took me 6 hours and wasted some money on tubes, that I broke just right away.. was so unrewarding!! went to bed early and was destroyed myself by this day.

the next morning I inflated it temporarily and drove it to this BMW garage.. was about 220USD, but they checked everything and tightened the screws on my motor, so the leak might have been sealed now. I'm glad everything has been checked.. tires inflated to optimum and so on.. didn't have any more troubles so far :)

driving out of SF was also quite a way on the Interstate, but then finally hitting Highway 1. we camped on the cliffs in Santa Cruz (just North of SF) and listened to the sounds of the waves smashing against the rocks, 100 feet below :) that was cool!

then the ride down the Hwy 1 was probably the most beautiful ride EVER!! :D you have a curvy road, going up and down, just right beside the ocean with very nice mountains to the left! we've seen an Elephant-Sealion colony just hanging out on the beach and turned off the Hwy 46 east to take the 56 east, after being a short stretch on 101 (for those who want to follow us with Google Maps or Google Earth :)
we spent the night in green hills, just off the road, enjoying the sunset and having another night, laying in each others arm.. is sooooo nice!!! :)

then we drove through mountains and some flat lands.. along the way since we came to California we've seen wine, oil, cotton, lemons and weed production of this state :) it's really educative to check out this world!! haha :D
we ended up camping out in the desert, next to a car cemetary.. was cool to take some pictures there. will be online soon! :)

this almost brings us to the current day.. yesterday we drove from that place up the 395 to the 190, that goes across the Death Valley.. was still pretty hot, even if out of season. it's very stony, rocky, just some bushed, that can gather water from very deep below. there isn't that much life out there, but there haven't been died as many people either, as the name would claim :)
it would have been 50 bucks for this one day, if we would have registered and camped out in an official spot.. so we managed to save this money by just going our way. (spending it for expensive meal and groceries). yeah.. don't feel really guilty about it.. was just too stony and hot to pay a lot of money to be there ;) hehe :) you'll see some nice pictures of it.. wasn't the way I expected it and it's despite it's beauty hard to think, that this is a national park (I naturally expect some trees and rivers ;)

oh.. I didn't mention the redwoods, that we have driven through.. huge trees, that are houndreds of years old (some can be driven through, but didn't do that..). but these are the very big trees, that you see on the national park pictures :) they are truely awesome!

hmm.. what else.. that's all for now.. me and Liz are having a great time!! it's nice to ride with somebody (would be 1000 times more boring in the night, just camping out somewhere alone by yourself). But we also get stressed sometimes and feel a certain tension, but we can talk about it and that's the most important thing.. traveling together is way more intense than living together or being married.. so if we make it, we probably always make it ;)
I still enjoy being with Liz, sharing our thoughts and feelings! ..I got sometimes unpatient and harsher than I want to be, but I guess, this is the challenge of life and she has a lot of understanding and love for me :) I'm glad, we found each other!

Ok.. I might add stuff, if something comes to my mind later ;) we have to continue further South.. getting to Baker on Interstate 15 and finding a way to head down to Interstate 40 (and Route 66). The trip on the bike will end in Austin, Texas. There I'll have to find a place to store it for 2-14 month and we'll have flights to NY, to spend 4 days there to make preparations and then 3 weeks in the Ukraine and ?? days in December/January in New York.. and then we gonna see :) ..but so far, so good! haha :D isn't that f**cking amazing!! :) what a hell of a trip I'm having here!!! HAHA :D

my best wishes and blessings to you, dear friends and family!

Sleeping in Seattle.. ;) hehe :)

..yeah, we slept a lot here ;) hehe :) ..after Liz and I were finally reunited, we're enjoying every single minute together!! :D

when Hannah had her free day, we went to a park with coast and spent there the whole afternoon, together with Lydia, another friend of ours. Was totally, totally awesome, with a beautiful sunset! (had the color of Liz's hair.. including the purple and golden tones ;) yes.. a picture will soon follow (of her and the sunset ;) hehe :)

we haven't made a lot here.. didn't go to the Aquarium, didn't go up the Needle (this would be 25$) but had a splendid time here! I LOVE Seattle! :) met cool people going out and ended up in their apartment, had delicious breakfast, eat as the kings, went dancing one night when there was electro and psy. hmm.. actually, did quite a few things, now thinking about it ;) hehe :)

We started with Acro Yoga (have to look it up.. it's kinda artistic stuff). so I hold Hannah in the air with my feet, while she was making the plank and hold Liz in the air with my hands on her hips, while she was also making the plank.. I guess, it looked pretty cool! :D haha :) (especially, whit such beautiful girls ;) got even an applause ;) Liz and I want to do more stuff like this.. it's really fun!!! :D

then I got a second helmet and we made a test ride through the city and on the Interstate, to see if I can still handle the bike and if Liz likes it.. she loves it! :) so I organized a few other things.. like two hard plastic file boxes, tin bars, electric wire and a couple of cable ties and bend the things in form, used lots of duct tape and mcgyvered two front panniers with my Swiss army knife :D pretty cool shit! ..we left most of our luggage here and Hannah will send it to NY, once we arrive there.

it took us a few hours of discussion and some very emotional moments of confusion, but finally we got it together.. we start here tomorrow noon direction Highway 101 and then down the coast (epic ride! :D to San Francisco, Los Angeles then over to Austin (Texas) and continuing towards the east coast (Route 66, where it's still nice). will take us about a month to get there and yes, finally I drive though the States, because it seems what it right and matches with our ideas..

we're about to get our flights on probably the 10th of November to Kiev, where we will stay for about a month.. saying hello to Liz's parents and traveling in the Ukraine :) (fuck.. that was really not predictable ;) haha :D isn't that just GREAT!! life unfolds itself everyday in his devine beauty and there's no other way to go along with this flow! :) ..it will actually be cheaper for me, to spend a month in the Ukraine (including tickets), than the States. of course, I couldn't have been more uninterested in Eastern Europe, but life is change and I'm really looking forward now to get there! :D I want to experience the world of my soulmate as it is mine :)

ah.. and my dreads are getting better! :) after a total mess, we could fix it and are using now crochet needles to get it tightened :) Liz put a picture of mine online in Facebook. it's still from Burning Man, but gives and idea, how my dreads will be ;) you should check it out, if you're on FB and my friend ;) haha :D

hmm.. I wish you love and happiness! may you also be blessed in life, as I am! :D ..I found a wonderful girl that loves me, the way I love her! we're taking care of each other, caressing each other and having wonderful energies! we can talk about everything, can laugh and cry together and have so much understanding for each other! we are perfect in our imperfection and are a totally sweet and adorable couple! :) haha :D ..as my travels become bigger and more meaningful, so does my love and I feel, this is the Zenith of everything, that has ever been (except for our chemistry.. I just had fragments of it before and I discover land, that I thought is familiar to me already :) blessed universe!!! how could I not love life so much!! :D

all the best and hear from me soon! :)

..spread your wings my dragon and take me and my love high up in the air, through all the skies!

Arrived in Seattle..

yes, this is where I am at the moment :)

staying at the apartment of Liz super cute and extremely nice best friend and meeting my beloved one in just a few hours.. FINALLY!!! :D

I got some stories to tell (they are naturally about to come, when you journey out into the day! ;)

So I started pretty early in Vernon.. missing one of my two Sarongs, that hopefully will be sent to me later.. (got lost in the mess there ;)
was a nice ride, met some other bikers and they invited me a coffee.. shared some good stories and I continued to Kamloops and then west, where the road leads down the Frazer Valley. That was a really beautiful ride!! :D sorry, just enjoyed for myself and no pics.. light wasn't suitable for taking pictures. I ended up this night in Harris Hot Springs, where I found myself and abandoned house in the city (camping was insanely expensive!!!) so I tried to be unseen and leaving no footprint. I was having some beers on the lake and when I walked back into the property, there was a police car standing.. must have been there for at least half an hour (got delayed, be saving a ball out of the water ;)
so yeah.. somebody saw me, called the owner, this one worried, called the cops and there we were ;) was totally easy going.. was a bit nervous walking towards that car, but mastered the situation exceptionally! :D they were checking on my bike and didn't find anything.. so after another 30 minutes, they had no information about the bike, nether my insurance, but it was OK.. I seemed to be OK ;) so after they called the owner back and asked if I could stay (the answer was "no", but I had to try ;) I left the place went swimming in a hot pool and spent the night in the forest, next to a walking trail.. cold and dark, but for free ;) hehe :D

next day, I was driving to Vancouver Island.. almost got in the city, by taking the wrong highway ;) but then finding Horseshoe bay, where there are ferries (newly bought in Germany) over to the Island. Had two hours to stay and went down on the beach, playing guitar, meeting a total awesome guy and having a great conversation! :) hopping on the ferry, enjoying strong wind on deck.. you could lean strongly in the wind.. totally fun! :D
the Island is pretty big and I didn't want to travel all the way to the top, but Tofino seemed to be a good destination. because also this several hours, I made it to Parksville, where the coastal road begins. wanted to stay on the beach, but seemed to not upset the people, I start asking around. the first try was unsuccessful, but then there was a guy who let me park my bike and told me to come back in an hour, when his wife is around.. I did so and I was welcomed in, got a super tasty and healthy salad for dinner and we talked the whole night long, smoking spliffs in their kitchen and drinking two bottles of wine! :D they had a wicked house (he works in house improvement and it's the first private house I've seen with an urinal!! :D that rocks!!) and they had me a bed to sleep :)

the next day I spent some hours on the market in Coombs.. first just playing with my tools and then playing instruments and busking in the street :) made 10 bucks ;) hehe :) had nice conversations and could pass something on.. just not sure, if I want to take money for that ;) but was a nice experience, never did this before and there might be a time, where I travel this way. but because of poor guitar playing, better poor didgeridoo playing ;) hehe :)
was getting really cold then to drive to Tofino.. I had this picture of a pepperoni cheese pizza in my mind, that guided me so far.. but FREEEEEZING cold!! :(
I got my pizza, some beer and went to the city park beach and stayed there for a night. the Pizza lady told me that.. camping is not allowed, but everybody does and because of the end of the season, it wouldn't matter that much :) so met some people on the beach and talked and slept just a stone throw away from the surge, watching the stars :) was a special night.. missed Liz a lot!!! ..and was pretty cold.. slept in all my clothes + bike jacket :P

next morning it got rainy and I stayed in Tofino until noon. meeting people, doing my stuff in the city and figuring out, where to go.. was a farm of a hippie dude, that was just outside of town :) so I met a lot of random people there, got a dry place for 10 bucks and helped with trimming work. the people that are living there, do so for weeks or month and I bet, it's even more lovely, if it's warm and dry ;) was a big peace of land with forest and walkways, trailers and tarp-cottages, where people would stay. ..I got the "Tharp Mahal" :D haha :) pretty much space and a fire place, that I didn't dare to use ;)

started then my ride down to Victoria early in the morning the next day. Almost all days, I went to bed pretty early (cold and dark) and slept quite a lot (cold and wet in the morning ;).
so in Port Alberni I took the gravel dirt road to Bamfield, but heading further down to Lake Cowichan and from there over to the coast.. so my bike got once again all over dirty (looks badass, but have to wash it this afternoon :P
after Bamfield junction it got really, really, REALLY nasty with bumps and wholes in the ground. the street requires good shocks! was glad, that I made it to a paved road again and was lucky to arrive in Victoria after another pretty long ride along the coast. On the way, I hit the ditch, but not too bad.. once again: a pannier out of shape and I had to unload the bike. the first car stopped, asked if everything all right (didn't get any scratch.. was pretty controlled ;) so he helps me moving the bike and I'm on the road again after 5 minutes :)
and then.. I see this black bear crossing the street!! :D I slow down, getting closer and he hurries over the road, I stop, he stops, watching each other and the he disappears over the edge. that was really cool!! :D never saw a wild bear so close.. he was probably: "Oh shit dude, gotta get of the road.." ;)

I spent this night 30 dollars to have a warm place to stay in the HI hostel in Victoria (hate doing that). but it was to cold and nasty to not do so.. ;) I don't like hostels that much, because it rembers me my Lonely Planet times and the people there are either very much for themselves or then it's not the kind of party people that I'd like to meet.. so I went out and met this night about five random parties in a row, having beer, good conversations and a wonderful time! :) was really fulfilling! could ask some people on a table and sit down and when we split up again, it was such a good vibe! listened to their story and told them mine.. my trip, my new love and about the uncertainty of the future :) was GREAT! :D
the next morning I got despite every caution a parking ticket, that I tossed, after I have been advised to do so :D haha ;) yeah.. they don't make the effort to bust tourist.. sorry about that :) wasn't blocking the road anyway :P
went on the Black Ball Ferry down to the states.. Passport stuff and customs.. happily the guy in the hostels tells me, I have to be there 90 minutes early.. just made it in time, without reservation, all totally easy. don't get even searched ;)
got invited by a older couple, that drives a big truck with goods around and they invited my second breakfast and .. do I have to mention it: totally nice and fulfislling! people are so incredible lovely!!! it's just a pleasure to be on this planet and meet this awesome people!! of course do I have faith in mankind!! how could I not?? :D

getting on US ground, the weather was again changing.. changed along the way my gloves to the winter edition and wrapped more things around my head to keep me warm.. in the next days we will decide how and where to continue and if it's possible to ride the bike together.. wouldn't be for very long then and next to the packing issue comes now the climatic aspect.. it's probably already too cold.. but yes, it's only 10 hours away from meeting each other again!!! :D and then we gonna see, what our plans are ;)

I drove to Seattle.. over some really cool bridges! :) but also a lot on highways and I liked it more in Canada.. so somehow California or New York or South America.. but it's one of these moments, where I'd feel to speed up to the warmth ;)
I met Hannah here last night, we went out to have a salad and spent then some time talking on her balcony, having a glass of wine! :) as enjoyable as it sounds!! ;) hehe :)
now it's time to fix the bike and get some minor tasks done (as washing the beer soaked underwear, caused by leaking containers after special driving maneuvers :P ..so all not too bad ;)

wish you all the best and will hear from me, once I feel, enough things have happened, that I can let the public know ;) hehe :)

L'n'L!
